Army Jawan Martyred In Poonch

An Army jawan was martyred along the Line of Control in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch late Wednesday evening. This is the third fatal injury received by an army jawan in the last 48 hours in the region. Two jawans from Jammu region earlier attained martyrdom late Monday night in Keri sector of Sunderbani in Rajouri.

According to reports Pakistan army had initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing in two different sectors --Nowshera and Krishna Ghati during the day.

Firing in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri was reported around 2.00 while Pakistan army trained its guns towards forward Indian posts in KG sector around 4.45 p.m. In both the sectors Indian army reacted strongly and effectively. Pakistan army also targeted civilian areas using mortars

Defence PRO in Jammu Lt-Col Devendra Anand said, "in the exchange of fire Naik Thorat Kiran Popatrao was grievously injured and succumbed to his injuries late wednesday evening".

Lt- Col Anand said, "Naik Thorat Kiran Popatrao, aged 31 years, belonged to Village Fakirabad Wadi, Post office Ladgaon, Waijapur Tehsil, District Aurangabad, Maharashtra and is survived by his wife Aarti.
