Seeking support of all sections of society to restore sustainable and lasting peace in the state, Governor Satya Pal Malik on Saturday said violence and confrontation was not a solution to any problem.

Addressing people after unfurling the national flag and taking salute at an impressive parade during the 70th Republic Day celebrations at the Jammu University ground, Malik said it was “sad and unfortunate” that some youth, particularly those who were highly qualified, were inspired by terror ideology in the Kashmir valley and chose the path of violence.

“We will have to identify the ways and means to get rid of these blots of violence. It is our collective responsibility to restore sustainable peace and it is not possible without the people’s cooperation and support,” he added.

The Governor observed that J&K was passing through a very crucial time which was full of challenges as well as opportunities. “Our youth are filled with aspirations and expectations. They are looking for a way that leads them to a better future which is full of success, satisfaction and prosperity,” he said

The Governor hoisted the Tricolour at the state-level function earlier. He also inspected the parade and took the salute at an impressive march-past which was commanded by Col Baskar Singh of the 1st Battalion J&K Light Infantry.

A cultural pageantry based on national integration and the glorious composite heritage of the state was presented by students from various local schools on the occasion. Army’s weapons and equipment display and police’s Dare Devil’s motorcycle acrobatics were witnessed by a jam-packed audience in the stadium.

Earlier, the Governor went to the Balidan Stambh and paid tribute to the personnel who sacrificed their lives for the honour of the country.
