Date:- 15 Jan 2019

A local militant who had been active for over four years was arrested in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, the police said.

Sarfaraz Seer of Koil Muqam, Tangpathri, Bandipora, was arrested on Monday morning by a joint team of security forces at a checkpoint on the Bandipora-Srinagar highway.

“Seer was active since 2014. He was operating in Bandipora, Sopore and Kupwara belts of north Kashmir,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Bandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar Azad said. “Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the arrested militant.”

The SSP said Seer was a categorised militant and his associate was killed in a gunfight in 2017 in Bandipora.

Seer’s arrest came a day after the Delhi Police claimed to have arrested two militants, including a juvenile, from Shopian district of south Kashmir. The arrest was made in a joint operation by the Delhi Police and J&K Police. — TNS
