Major, BSF constable injured as Pak targets Rajouri posts

An Army officerand a Border Security Force constable were injured on Thursday when Pakistan violated ceasefire inRajouri district. The truce has been violated in the Jammu region for the third consecutive day.

The Pakistani troops targeted a forward post in the Tarkundi area of Manjakot tehsil in Rajouri district about 1 pm. The injured have been identified as Major Yadaendra of J&K Light Infantry and Constable Mumtaz Ali of 59 Battalion of the BSF.

The Major received bullet injuries in his leg while the constable, a resident of Rajouri, was hit in the abdomen. “Both were evacuated and airlifted to the military hospital in Jammu. Their condition is stated to be stable,” sources said.

“The Pakistan army initiated unprovoked firing this afternoon in the Balakot sector which was effectively and strongly retaliated, resulting in injuries to our personnel,” said Lt Col Devender Anand, Defence PRO

About 8.15 pm, Pakistani troops again resorted to firing in the Malti and Degwar areas of the Gulpur sector in Poonch district.

On Wednesday, Pakistan had initiated unprovoked firing with small arms and resorted to shelling with heavy-calibre weapons in the Gulpur sector of Poonch district. Thursday’s violation was the eighth such incident in the past week.
