Date:- 02 Jan 2019

After a wait of six months, the district administration and the consumer affairs and public distribution (CAPD) department has started the distribution of ration among the 642 militancy-displaced families living in the Talwara camp of Reasi district. This comes days after The Tribune carried a report on the issue.

Reasi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sagar Dattatray said directions had been issued to the CAPD officials and they had been asked to ensure that the militancy displaced people living in the camp get regular supply of free ration in future.

“An inquiry is being conducted into the delay in ration distribution. As per information, two-month ration is being provided to the migrant families living at the Talwara camp at present. Now, I am personally keeping a track of the distribution process,” the DC added.

Meanwhile, CAPD department assistant director Nasir Ahmed Bhat said the delay was due to the procurement process. “The process will be streamlined and efforts are being made to clear the backlog of 3,000 quintals of flour and 300 quintals of rice.”

Meanwhile, members of the Migrant Action Committee, Talwara, said they would continue the protest till the entire quantity of the pending ration was not released.

“We welcome the step taken by the administration, but the officials concerned must ensure that the ration is supplied on time and regularly. We also want that the ration pending for last several months be released at once,” said Balwan Singh, chairman, Migrant Action Committee, Talwara.
