A policeman was killed in a militant attack on a police station in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday morning, officials said. The attackers also snatched the rifle of the slain cop. The militants carried out the attack in the wee hours when they fired indiscriminately at the police station. ‘The attack was repulsed by alert jawans. One policeman, Ct Saqib Mir, sustained grave injuries in the attack and was evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, the injured jawan succumbed to his injuries,” a police spokesman said.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. A manhunt was launched to nab the attackers. Infiltration bid foiled in Tangdhar

Meanwhile, the Army claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector on Saturday evening. The Army said the infiltrators were helped by the Pakistani Army who fired at Indian posts.

“Our forces retaliated strongly and foiled infiltration bid being attempted under cover fire provided by the Pakistani Army,” Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said.

He said there was infiltration attempt by militants and ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army in Tangdhar Sector in evening hours on Saturday.

“No damage, injury or casualty on own side,” he said
